This aperitif, very popular in France, was invented in 1887 by two brothers who ran a wine shop in Bordeaux, Paul & Raymond Lillet. Lillet is made up of 85% wines from the Bordeaux region & 15% orange liqueur based on a recipe from the 18th century. Lillet is matured for 12 months in oak barrels in order to attain its final flavour. Lillet is served on ice with a slice of lime (white) or orange (red), or used as a base for various cocktails. 17% ABV, 0.75 litre bottle.
- Lillet blanc: tastes of honey, candied oranges, pine nuts, lime & mint. Use as a base for cocktails, e.g. dry martini or vodka martini.
